Practical Skills for Success

Discover the power of Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses, designed to equip you with the practical skills and knowledge needed to excel in the real world. Whether you're starting your career, looking to upskill, or making a career change, VET is your pathway to success.

What is VET?

Vocational Training is an educational approach that aims to prepare students for the job market. Through VET, students gain the practical skills and knowledge needed for their first job, career changes, skill upgrades, or further education. VET collaborates with the government, TAFE, and RTOs (Registered Training Organisations) to enhance students' professional abilities and competencies for career advancement. VET provides more affordable and time-saving paths for students to enter the workforce, avoiding the lengthy and costly processes associated with other forms of education, such as university.

Leading

Empowering Students to Achieve Their Career Goals

VET FEE-HELP used to be the loan program provided by the Government to assist eligible students in covering the costs of their education for VET courses at diploma level or above. This program has since been rebranded as VET Student Loans. Only students enrolled with approved providers offering this program have access to VET Student Loan courses. To determine if your provider offers VET Student Loans, inquire about the course you wish to study, and the provider will provide you with the necessary information.

List of VET Courses

Certificate I

These courses are designed to provide training and knowledge around a specific industry area, such as automotive, community services, or digital media. The degree of training ranges from entry-level knowledge at a Certificate II, to more advanced skills and even supervisory and management study areas within a Certificate IV. The duration of a certificate course ranges from six months to two years.

Certificate II

This qualification level develops students’ specialised skill set, to be applied in a variety of industry-specific workplace contexts. It can also be used as a pathway to further education. The duration of a diploma course is generally one to two years of full-time study.

Certificate III

This course type teaches an advanced level of applied skills in areas such as building and construction, IT and engineering. The duration of an advanced diploma is approximately eighteen months to two years of full-time study.

Certificate IV

This qualification type is comparable to a higher education graduate certificate and diploma – this has been designed to ensure students adopt an advanced skill set that covers a range of knowledge areas that will complement future roles in the workplace.

Where Are VET Courses Offered?

VET courses are available from public and private RTOs, typically through TAFE and private training providers. Some VET courses are provided through Australian Apprenticeships and Traineeships, allowing students to receive structured on-the-job training as a significant component of their education. In addition to these institutions, VET training is also accessible through affiliated schools and external community educational centers.

VET Entry Requirements

In order to enroll in the VET system for additional education, students typically need to have finished a level of education that is similar to Year 10, 11, or 12. They might also need to demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, and math. Additionally, certain creative programs such as design or art may require the submission of a portfolio. The specific requirements can vary depending on the course provider and the type of program. For more information, it is advisable to reach out to your course provider using an inquiry form.

Higher Education Pathways

If you want to pursue higher education but don't meet the entry requirements, VET training can be beneficial. Upon completion of VET courses at the certificate IV, diploma, and advanced diploma levels, students may have a pathway to fulfill the entry requirements for higher education. Additionally, certain VET courses may provide credit toward a higher education program, potentially reducing the length of the course requirement. It's crucial to check the specific pathways and credit procedures with your chosen institution, as this can vary depending on the institution and qualification.
